Jessica shares the five C's of dealing with clutter.
    Organizing Your Clutter

    • There is a system from the New York National Association of Professional Organizers that can be a useful starting place. It is called the five "C's"—clear, categorize, choose, create and complete.

    • Clear. Define the space you're working on and empty it out completely. Create a blank slate.

    • Categorize. You can do this as you are clearing. Sort the items by type to get a better understanding of what you've got. You might have doubles or triples of the same item which aren't necessary.

    • Choose. This is often the hardest part and the most rewarding. Decide which items you are going to keep, which get thrown out and which will be donated or sold.

    • Create. Plan your storage solutions and systems.

    • Complete. Complete the organizing process by putting it all in place with your most used items being the most accessible.

    • Above all else, be decisive. Don't let your possession tell you what stays and what goes—it's your call. Remember that we own our possessions, they don't own us!
