Materials:wooden knife block knife drawer insert rubberized shelf/drawer liner plastic knife covers How to Store Knives Properly - A wooden knife block keeps everything handy and organized. Look for one with a large, sturdy, flat base and individual slots that are spaced for safe removal.
- With any wood storage, it is important to wash and dry knives thoroughly before storing to prevent mildew.
- If counter space is limited, and you have an extra drawer, check out a wooden in-drawer knife tray (figure A).
- Keep knives well organized and sharper, since they aren't loose in a drawer.
- Non-slip rubberized drawer/shelf liner will help keep your knives from sliding around, and make it less likely for someone to cut themselves. It cuts down on colliding knives which can cause dull edges.
- To install the liner, just unroll it and cut to size. If necessary, secure in drawer with double-stick tape. To prevent wrinkles you can use a bit of spray adhesive or double-stick tape.
- Plastic edge guard sheaths add an extra layer of protection (figure B) to your knives.
