Stress-Free Grocery Shopping- Every time you run out of an item, or are nearly outwrite it down! Keep something in your kitchen just for this task. You can use a small erase board or chalk board, but you will not be taking it to the store with you. You will have to copy your list onto paper. So, just putting magnetic tape on the back of a small notepad is great for grocery lists because it will stick to the refrigerator. Just tear out the list when you are ready to shop. Enlist the help of the whole family in building the list. Whoever uses up the milk should be the one to write it on the list.
- A lot of grocery stores are putting a copy of their store layout online (figure A). You can print this out and it will help you when you make your grocery list by arranging it in order. A great list is organized by area: produce, meat, dry good, dairy, frozen foods, etc.
- Once you are at the store, it is all about saving time and money. Take advantage of couponsbut only for items you really need. Keep them in a bag. When you make your list, put a dot by the item that you have a coupon for, and just take those coupons to the store with you. Also, make sure to keep an eye out for sale items.
- If you have other errands to run, take a cooler to place the refrigerated items in until you get home.
- A convenient item to own is a foldable grocery cart (figure B). It is great to carry grocery items into the houseor other items to carry in.
Last minute tips: Be systematic, find a store you like, and shop during off-hours.
