    mint, rosemary and lemon grass potted herb plants
    mason jar
    hammer
    nails
    beer
    shallow plate
    sugar
    water

    Keeping Bugs Away

    • You can purchase mesh covers to place over the food.

    • Mint, rosemary and lemon grass act as natural pest repellants. Place a few potted plants on your table. It is more pleasant that the smell of citronella candles--and as a bonus you have an instant centerpiece!

    • Take an old jar with a metal lid. Punch a series of 3/8" holes in the top (figure A). Fill with beer and screw on the lid. Place around the parameters of your party. The bees will be attracted to the beer and leave you and your guest alone.

    • Take a plate and pour sugar into it with a little water. Place in a corner--away from your table and food. Bees and bugs will feast on this instead of on you!
