    Magnetic Paint Dollhouse

    • Magnetic paint is available at most larger home improvement stores. It is applied to your walls in a similar manner as ordinary primer. And as always, follow the manufacturer's instructions for painting.

    • You need to paint three to four coats of magnetic paint (allow one hour drying time between each coat) and two coats of your choice of wall paint (figure A).

    • Run a clean sheet of 8-1/2" x 11" paper through a magnetic laminating machine (figure B). Cut the now magnetized paper into strips to create different rooms for the dollhouse or a farmyard.

Note: You can buy sheets of magnetized paper if you do not have a laminator.

    • You can also laminate magazine cut-outs of furniture, trees, people and pets.

    • By gluing small magnets onto trimmed pieces of fabric, you can create wallpaper or curtains for the magic dollhouse, or anything else (figure C).

    • Depending on your child, make a few adjustments and turn the dollhouse into a tent and have a circus--or, turn the strips horizontally, use a few shorted ones vertically and you create a fence, and have a barnyard scene.

    • The next step is to fill the house, the circus tent, or the rodeo. To do that, you and your child can draw or color the items you want. Make color copies of pictures on cardstock such as: magazine pictures of real furniture, animals, cowboys or clowns (figure D). Again, you can laminate these things to extend the life before you attach the magnetic sheets.

Note:You can design anything you want--that is where we can challenge the imagination of our children.

    • A storage box is a great way to store the pictures from a magazine or pictures copied onto colored cardstock.
