Here's some illuminating holiday advice from Linda Cobb, the Queen of Clean®.
The larger candles you may be using for decoration can sometimes be a bit expensive, so when you unpack your old candles, take a few minutes to refresh them. All you need to do is to wet a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol and then wipe off the candle. In just seconds it'll get rid of the dust and give your candles a nice shine.Web Extra: Here are a few tips for removing candle wax from various surfaces: - Concrete floor: Use a hair dryer to heat the area. Then take an old credit card and scrape the wax off with it. Finally, spray on some oven cleaner. That should take care of the problem.
- Glass tabletop: Use a hair dryer set on high, holding it at an angle, and then use a scraper to pull off the wax. If you have residue when you're done, put some rubbing alcohol on a soft cloth and clean it off.
- Wicker: Place a bag of ice on top of the melted wax until the wax hardens. Then use the dull edge of an ice-cream stick, a toothpick or the tines of a fork to pick off the wax. This is going to be a somewhat arduous task because of the weave of the wicker. Take your time, and take breaks: you don't have to do it all at once.
