- If you store the garbage cans in the garage, keep them as far away from the living quarters as possible. To keep down odors, wash regularly with soap and water, and follow with a sprinkle of baking soda when the can is dry. When the cans are outside, keep the lids tightly closed to keep out inquisitive pets and critters.
- Use hooks and racks on the garage walls to free up space. Hang up folding patio furniture, out of season items and sports equipment (figures A and B).
- Use cabinets to store items that need to stay clean or out of reach, like pesticides; group by like items (figure C).
- Shelves are the perfect option for often used items, unless the items are poisonous; store poisonous materials in the closed cabinet.
- For safety's sake, store things that could roll around and cause accidents in closed containers. Egg cartons, for example, make a great storage case for golf balls.
