The refrigerator should be cleaned once a month.- Clean the exterior with fresh or flat club soda and a clean soft cloth (figure A). Buff with a paper towel. Rubbing alcohol can be used as an alternative to club soda, if preferred.
- Clean white appliances with a mixture of 8 cups of warm water, 1/2 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of liquid chlorine bleach and 2 tablespoons of borax. Apply with a soft cloth and buff to a shine.
- Remove the front grill, vacuum and wash with soap and water (figure B).
- Shelving can be cleaned with undiluted white vinegar, which is a safe, natural cleaning that also neutralizes odors. Dry with a paper towel. Pour a little bit of glycerin on a fresh paper towel and rub over the clean glass shelves; spilled food will wipe off easily (figure C).
- Remove odors in the refrigerator by filling a small bowl with charcoal, fresh cat litter or baking soda and place on a shelf (figure D). When disposing of old baking soda, pour it down the drain, then pour in white vinegar; the mixture will bubble away drain debris and deodorize as it cleans.
