- Shaving cream Shaving cream is whipped soap, and it makes an effective product for removing makeup stains. Apply to the stain and work in with your thumbs (figure B). Launder as usual.
- Toothpaste White nongel toothpaste is a mild abrasive and an excellent stain remover. For stains like lipstick, apply to the stain and work in with your thumbs, allowing the toothpaste to soak into the fabric; then launder as usual.
- Hydrogen peroxide Hydrogen peroxide removes bloodstains. Stretch the stained fabric over a bowl and secure with a rubber band to keep the stain from spreading. Pour the peroxide slowly over the stain. It will foam as it breaks down the protein in the blood, lifting it from the fabric (figure C). Launder as usual.
- Aspirin Use aspirin to remove perspiration stains from clothing. Dissolve eight to 10 aspirin in a glass of water. Soak the stain in the water for 30 minutes. The acid from the aspirin dissolves the perspiration stains. Launder as usual.
- Alcohol Mix a solution of 50 percent alcohol and 50 percent water. Pour in a spray bottle and use as a window and mirror cleaner. Dry with paper towels.
- Razors Use to shave "pills" from sweaters. Shave gently, using vertical strokes (figure D).
