The Queen of Clean®, Linda Cobb, demonstrates two ways to clean commodes. One is a unique way using Tang? as the cleaning tool and the other utilizes drywall sandpaper and vinegar.

    Cleaning the Toilet

    Materials and Ingredients:

2 tsp. Tang (citric acid is the active ingredient)
    Toilet bowl brush
    Plastic spoon

    1. With a spoon, pour 2 teaspoons of Tang into the toilet bowl and let it sit from 20 minutes to overnight.

    2. Use a toilet bowl brush to clean the surface well, and be sure to get up under the rim (figure A) well.

    3. Flush.

Cleaning Mineral Rings in the Toilet

    Materials and Ingredients:

    Spray bottle
    White vinegar
    Borax
    Fine drywall sandpaper

    1. Shut the water off at the tank and flush the toilet so the water level is reduced.

    2. Pour white vinegar into a spray bottle and spray all around the inside of the toilet.

    3. Sprinkle borax onto and into the toilet. Borax is a cleanser.

    4. Use fine drywall sandpaper (figure B -- looks just like window screening) to scrub the mineral ring until it's gone.

    5. When the ring is gone, turn the water back on and flush the toilet.

Checking for Mineral Deposits and Cleaning the Showerhead

    Materials and Ingredients:

Plastic bag (appropriate size for your showerhead)
    White vinegar
Twist tie, ribbon or string (your choice)
Soft cloth, sponge or paper towel

    1. Fill the plastic bag with white vinegar. Note: Fill the bag enough to cover your showerhead.

    2. Take a twist tie, ribbon or string to secure the bag of white vinegar around the showerhead (figure C). Be sure to tighten securely.

    3. Leave the bag of white vinegar tied to the showerhead from eight hours to overnight. When you come back, simply wipe off the showerhead and it will be clean and ready to run freely.

Tip: Don't throw away the white vinegar. It can be used for something else (see recipe, below).

    Once-A-Month Drain Cleaner

    Materials and Ingredients:

    1/2 cup baking soda
    Leftover white vinegar
    Measuring cup (glass or plastic)
    Bucket of cold water

    1. Sprinkle the baking soda on and into the drain.

    2. Pour the leftover white vinegar down the drain and watch out for the white tornado (figure D) the solution creates. Let stand for 30 minutes.

    3. Flush with a bucket of cold water, and the drain will flow perfectly.
