Linda Cobb, the Queen of CleanB., has tips for all seasons, not just Spring. Here's a sampling from the Queen's book The Queen of Clean -- A Queen for All Seasons : - Decorative candles can be cleaned quite easily with a cotton ball moistened with rubbing alcohol.
- Save those empty baby wipe boxes. They come in handy for starting gift tags and those slivers of ribbon that are so handy for decorating small packages.
- Simmering orange or lemon peels can give your home a fresh, natural scent.
- Clean pollen stains from clothing by sponging with rubbing alcohol. Don't use anything with ammonia. That will set the stain.
- Avoiding placing houseplants directly on carpets and rugs. Moisture in the plant can cause condensation, and that in turn can cause mildew -- a powerful irritant to allergy sufferers.
- Spray your garden tools with nonstick cooking spray each time you use them. The dirt will be easy to remove when you are done. In fact, it should fall right off.
- Spray the front of the car with nonstick cooking spray before you hit the road. Bugs and grime will wash right off.
- Pinecones make great kindling. They heat up fast and burn for a long time.
- Flies ruining your picnic? Keep them away by wiping the table with some undiluted white vinegar or laying some citrus peels on the tablecloth.
- Grilling at the beach? Clean the grill rack by rubbing it with sand.
- Don't store clothes in plastic dry cleaner bags. They can cause yellowing.
- Rubber causes silver to tarnish, so don't dry pieces on a rubber mat or store it wrapped in rubber bands.
- Prevent frozen locks in your car by covering the lock with a couple of layers of masking tape. The tape will keep the lock free from moisture, which causes the ice to form.
