  • Quick Tip: Get the Most from Your Workout
  • From "Ask DIY"
    episode ADI-209
    advertisement

To get the maximum benefit from your workout, eat enough low-fat carbohydrates to fuel your body, says Ask DIY Fitness Expert Stacie Saunders. Good options include bagels, low-fat cheese and crackers and oatmeal, which you should eat at least half an hour before you exercise. Another way to get more from your workout? Keep a journal of workouts and food intake so you can see how much progress you make.

Always start and finish each workout with stretches to prevent injury. Finally, don't forget to drink water before, during and after exercising. Don't wait to get thirsty because by the time you're thirsty, you're already dehydrated.
