    Figure B

Add the romantic glow of firelight to a room with an easy-to-install faux fireplace lit with candles.

Shop around for a fireplace surround. You can find them in flower stores, architectural-effects stores, and junk and antiques stores. Secure the mantel to the wall with construction adhesive and appropriate fasteners. Finish the interior with tile or painted faux bricks, and add a platter of candles to create a firelike glow (figure A).

Accessorize the mantel to suggest romance with scented candles and lush loads of fresh flowers. Dress up the area with a pair of bistro chairs and a table for two, and set the table prettily for coffee or dessert (figure B).
