| Create a table centerpiece using floor tiles. |

Black and white floor tiles are used to create a centerpiece straight from the 1920's.
Materials: 7"x4" cardboard bakery box scissors craft or utility knife metal straight edge/ruler pencil black permanent marker 7 12" self-adhesive vinyl tiles in black and white checkerboard pattern 2 calla lilies 2 floral pin frogs carpet tape
1. Assemble the bakery box, leaving the lid open. 2. Cut the lid of the box off. 3. Use the lid under the vinyl tiles when cutting to protect the work surface. 4. Use a metal straight edge and craft knife to cut two of the vinyl tiles into quarters, separating the white squares and the black squares. Note: Save the white squares for another project. 5. Set the bakery box onto its side. 6. Remove the paper backing from one of the black squares, and then adhere to the side of the box (use the table to ensure the tile is flat and even with the corner of the box), aligning with the open edge of the box. 7. Use the knife to cut the excess tile with the top (closed) edge of the box.

8. Place the cut away piece of the tile adjacent to the first piece to finish the side of the box (figure A). 9. Cut the excess tile even with the top and the corner of the box. You now have one side of the box covered in tile. 10. Repeat for the remaining three sides of the box. 11. Place a whole tile face down on the work surface. 12. Position the box onto the tile, using a ruler to help center on the tile (figure B). 13. Use a pencil to trace around the box onto the backing paper of the tile. 14. Cut the tile on the marked lines. 15. Remove the backing paper, and then apply the piece to the top (closed) of the box (figure C). 16. Go around all cut edges of the tiles (at the corners and around the perimeter of the top piece) with a black permanent marker to conceal the cut edges. 17. In the center of the table, place four whole tiles. Note: Don't remove the paper backing, but trim the excess paper from the edges of the tiles. 18. Use a small bit of carpet tape under the tiles to hold them in place. 19. Gently curve the stems of the calla lilies, and then insert the stems into the holes cut into the top of the box. 20. Press each stem into a floral pin frog (figure D) to hold the flower upright. 21. Place the box with flowers in the center of the tiles. Note: A bit of carpet tape under the pin frogs will help make sure they don't move if the table gets bumped during the party.
