    1. Print a photo onto a sheet of fusible printer fabric. The printed photo should be at least 8"x10". Set aside and allow the ink to dry.

    2. Cut fusible web sheets just smaller than the cotton batting, and then stick to one side of the batting.

    3. Place the batting, fusible web side down, onto the wrong side of the cotton fabric, centering as best as you can (figure A). Press with a dry iron over the batting, slightly securing the batting to the fabric.

    4. Turn the batting over fabric side up, and then iron over the batting to completely secure the batting to the fabric (figure B).

    5. Turn the fabric over so the batting is on top. Fold down the top edge of the fabric over the batting and press. Repeat with the bottom edge and both side edges. Unfold the side edges.

    6. Trim all but 1/8 inch of white border from the printed photo (figure C).

    7. Place the printed photo onto the placemat, center as closely as possible. Use a ruler to ensure that the photo is centered. Use tape at the top and bottom of the photo to hold in place temporarily.

    8. Fold the corners of one side edge of the fabric in so that when the side edge is folded over the placemat, the fold will create a mitered corner from the corner of the placemat to the corner of the photo.

    9. Unfold the side edge, and then press the folded corners to create a crease. Note: Don't press the corner while it's folded or you'll adhere to the photo.

    10. Cut a piece of fusible web to fit to the underside of the side edge of fabric (with the folded corners), and then stick in place on the underside of the fabric. Note: Don't iron.

    11. Repeat the folding process for the second side edge, and then apply fusible web once the corners are folded.

    12. Remove the photo from the placemat, and then fold in the two side edges, pressing in place with the iron (figure D).

    13. Remove the tape from the photo, and then place the photo back onto the placemat, lining up the corners of the photo with the mitered corners of the fabric.

    14. Iron the photo onto the placemat.

    15. Measure each side of the photo. Cut the gimp one inch longer than each side of the photo (four pieces of gimp, one for each side).

    16. Use fabric glue to attach the gimp around the border of the photo, folding under 1/2 inch on each end of the gimp to prevent fraying.
