    1. Design the layout of the fabrics by cutting out several pieces of striped fabric and around several of the designs on the floral/fruit fabrics (figure A).

    2. Lay the fabric pieces onto the tile, and then rearrange until you get the desired look. Trim the fabric pieces to size if necessary. Keep in mind that the decoupage medium will make most fabric shrink as it dries. If you want a piece of fabric to reach the sides of the tile, cut the piece a few inches longer than desired.

    3. Apply a generous layer of decoupage medium to the entire surface of the tile (figure B). Lay out the bottom-most layer of fabric onto the tile and smooth, being careful to apply additional layers of fabric pieces. If you have pieces that extend over the edges of the tile to accommodate shrinking, brush the decoupage medium all the way to the extended edges of the fabric. If the fabric pieces overlap, be sure to apply decoupage medium between the layers.

    4. Once all the fabric pieces have been applied to the tile, smooth a final layer of decoupage medium over the surface (figure C). Decoupage medium should be allowed to dry at least 24 to 48 hours before using as a charger.

    5. If you have any fabric pieces that were cut larger than the tile to accommodate shrinking, use a craft knife to trim away excess fabric.
