    Spicy Invitation

A simple but "spicy" invitation is created using various spices and coordinating paper.

    PHOTO
    Materials:

4 2-7/8" squares of green vellum
    1/2" double stick tape
    4 colorful spices
    scissors
    small soft bristle paint brush
    gold mulberry paper
    pencil
    ruler
6" square of dark green cardstock
    invitations printed on parchment paper

    1. On a square of vellum paper, place a strip of double stick tape diagonally across matching the edge of the tape with the corners of the vellum. Cut off the excess tape from the edges of the square.

Note: It's very important to be as precise as possible to create stripes that align properly.

    2. Pour out a small line of the first spice onto a plate.

    3. Press a piece of tape into the spice (figure A). Make sure that the entire piece of tape is covered in the spice. Use a soft bristle paint brush to remove any excess.

    4. Place the second piece of double-stick tape alongside the shortest edge of the first piece of tape. Cut off the excess tape from the edges of the square.

    5. On a second plate, pour out a small line of the second spice and press the tape into the spice as before. Again, use a soft bristle paint brush to remove unwanted spice from the tape.

    6. Repeat this process two more times with different spices in order to have a total of four different spices on one square of vellum.

    7. There will be four different spices on one square of vellum with four squares of vellum total.

    8. Print out the names of the spices used onto mulberry paper in four rows—each about 1/2 inch apart. Repeat the name of the spice across the row.

    9. Place a striped square onto the mulberry paper at an angle so that the names of the spices show through the uncovered half of the square mimicking the striped spices.

    10. Trace carefully around the corner of the vellum.

    11. Cut the traced corner, and then cut across the bottom of the printed spice names to create a half square triangle. Repeat this process three more times to get a total of four mulberry paper corners.

    12. Use a ruler to measure and mark the center of the green card stock (figure B) by making a vertical and horizontal line that meet in the middle.

    13. Place a small piece of double-stick tape on the back of the vellum square, placing the tape behind the spices.

    14. Align the corner with the spices with the center mark on the card stock, and then press into place. Repeat for the remaining vellum squares.

    15. Apply a piece of double-stick tape to the back of the mulberry paper triangle.

    16. Slide the triangle under the exposed vellum of one square, and then align with the corner.

    17. Press the mulberry paper in place under the vellum square. Repeat for the remaining mulberry corners.

    18. Apply the printed invitation information to the back of the cardstock (figure C) using double-stick tape.
