  • Chick Flick Fondue Party

  • PHOTO
If the boys are having a night out, why not have a girl's night in? With a maxed out media room, it's the perfect opportunity to watch your favorite "chick flicks" without the guilt!

Although we matched chick flicks with a fondue theme, you could easily match the theme to the movie being watched -- or even a scene in the movie. Be creative and you'll find the perfect party theme for an evening with your best gal pals.

    Invitations

Don't limit yourself to invitations featuring a film or fondue theme. Consider retro "lounge" style invitations or whimsical invitations from designer Anne Traintor. Whatever your style, make sure your invitations convey the "no boys allowed" message!

    Secrets to Success

    • Consider setting up fondue stations to keep the party flowing.
    • Chop fruit and veggies, cut up bread slices, and cut bite-sized pieces of cake ahead of time -- or enlist the help of friends before the party is set to begin.
    • Limit your guest list to 6-8 for this type of event.

    Menu Ideas

When preparing fondue, typical selections include cheese fondue with veggies; a chocolate dessert fondue with fruit, cheesecake or angel food cake; or even small pieces of steak, chicken or shrimp (but your fondue pot must be hot enough to cook the meat or poultry in a bouillon broth, so exercise caution) with various dipping sauces.

But don't limit yourself -- fondue is versatile. Event planner Tracy Rose Denham suggests drizzling chocolate fondue over popcorn in a bowl or even using it to make s'mores, for an easy, sweet treat.

Don't have a fondue pot on-hand? Try using your microwave to create a faux fondue! Here's a clever microwave recipe from the DIY archives!

Tomato Basil and Gouda Cheese Fondue
    Yield: 2 servings

    Ingredients:

One 8-oz. round Gouda cheese, cut into 1" cubes
    1/3 cup fresh tomatoes, diced
    1 TBS. fresh basil, chopped
1 baguette loaf, sliced and toasted

    1. Place cheese in a bowl and microwave on high for 1 minute.

    2. Stir cheese and keep cooking for 20-second intervals, stirring occasionally until cheese is thoroughly melted.

    3. Stir in tomato and basil to blend. Serve with toasted bread.
