    1. Turn the pots upside down. The first thing you want to do is create a band of color around the center of the pot.

      Expert Tip: Sometimes terra cotta can be slightly rough. You might want to sand it before you paint it. Make sure it is very dry before you apply the paint, otherwise the paint might peel off.

      FYI: Dot paintings are the traditional visual art form of the Aborigines in Western Australia.

    2. Dap acrylic paint onto your foam stamp and then apply the stamp from one side to the other with a rolling technique (figure A). Use a brush to fill in any part of the design that doesn't transfer. The ink should dry in a few minutes.

    3. Use paint pens to create more dot art design (figure B) on the stamped design and around the perimeter of the color band you painted on the pot.

      Expert Tip: Terra cotta pots are extremely porous. Keep this in mind when you are choosing paint for your project; acrylic or latex paints work best.
