FYI: The name Vejigantes (which is pronounced "vay-hee-GON-tays") is the word for the masked and costumed men that dance throughout the Carnival.

    1. Mold clay into square base.

    2. Using two 18" long pieces of wire, find the midpoint and bend them in half.

    3. Keep loop in bend intact (figure A). Twist the wire at the bend to secure it.

    4. Pull up two pieces of the wire to create "arms."

    5. Twist midpoint of wires to create stem for bottom piece (figure B). If you find the top part is untwisting you can use pliers to hold it in shape.

    6. To make arms, curl the two single strand wires at the top. Take the top ring and bend it down toward the base (figure C). This will hold the card.

Note: After the party, these could be used to hold photos or notes.

    7. Insert the wire "body" of the cardholder into the clay.

    8. Cut the fabric to fit the "body" of the cardholder (figure D), and accent with ribbons.

Expert Tip: In designing a buffet, you can either use a centerpiece as a focal point, or you can be a little creative and use various items that can become a focus for the eye.

    9. Trace the head pattern onto the cardstock, and cut it out.

    10. Insert the "head" into the top ring.

    11. After the clay has dried -- about 4 hours -- write the names of the food you're serving onto the cards.
