  • Dew Kitchen
  • A taupe kitchen gets a makeover with warm, traditional earth-tone fabrics and paint.
    From "Material Girls"
    episode DMTG-210

Joe and Sarah Dew want to make their new kitchen the heart of their home but don't know exactly what to do with the space. The Material Girls suggest using rich shades of red, gold and green and a traditional style to transform the bland room.

The Dews begin by painting the walls a mossy green. Then, Kelly shows daughters Haili and Allie how to make a candle centerpiece using wood, fabric and decorative nail head trim.

    Room designed by Kelly Keener.

    Materials:

    fabric (Waverly 648702-Grandstand Olive)
    scissors
    wood (precut to desired size)
    brass nail heads
    cabinet door knobs
    hammer
    staple gun/staples
    measuring tape
    drill

    1. First measure and mark in 1" from all four corners on the precut wood.

    2. Drill a hole at each mark and screw the cabinet door knobs in place. (This creates the "feet" of the centerpiece.)

    3. Now staple the fabric to the wood. Starting in the center, tightly pull the fabric and staple in place. Fold the material as you go around the wood to create a hem. When you come to the knobs, trim the excess fabric as you go and fold and staple around them. Neatly fold the corners (like wrapping a package) before stapling.
