Designer Samantha Gleisten adds interactive fun to old end tables by sprucing them up with magnetic paint.

 These interactive end tables--complete with chalkboard and magnetic paint--will provide countless hours of entertainment for baby Frankie.

Materials:End tables Table measure Square Various saws 3/4" MDF Power drill Drill bits Screws Magnetic Primer Chalkboard paint Paint Fun handles Magnets
End Tables:- Mark your end tables.
Note: Use masking tape to write on if you have trouble seeing your lines on painted surfaces. - Cut the tables using various saws. Use a circular saw for longer--straight cuts (figure A), and then you can cut your corners with a jig saw and a reciprocating saw.
- Cut new backs to fit your newly created openings in your end tables out of 3/4" MDF.
- Attach the MDF to the end tables using glue and screws.
- Fill your screw holes.
Interactive Application:- Sand the end tables to accept paint.
- Prime the insides of the end tables with magnetic primer.
- Paint the insides of the end tables with chalkboard paint.
- Paint the outsides of the tables in fun rainbow colors. You can highlight the details in the original woodwork by using highlight colors.
- Attach fun door pulls (figure B).
- Fill the inside of the end tables with chalk and fun magnets.
