Designers Michael Spatafora and Samantha Gleisten created a functional storage system out of cement tubing and an old table.
    Materials:

    Half circle coffee table
    12" concrete form
    3/4" MDF
    Lumber scraps
    Paint
    Table saw
    Reciprocating saw
    Power saw
    Drill bits
    Screws
    Tape Measure

    Table Preparation:

    1. Cut the legs off the table flush with the bottom edge of the table apron using a reciprocating saw. You can also use a simple handsaw, if that's what you have.

    2. Create the mounting bracket. Cut a piece of 3/4" MDF to the same shape and size as the table apron. Place the pieces of scrap lumber inside the table apron, and then screw into place. Attach the MDF to the scrap lumber using wood glue and screws. Remove the screws that are holding the scraps to the table apron. The scrap lumber is now permanently attached to the MDF backer and you now have a mounting bracket. At installation, this bracket will be screwed into the studs in the wall, and then the end table section will slide into place and be screwed through the apron into the scrap lumber.

    3. Sand the end table.

    4. Prime and paint both the end table and the hanging bracket.

    Shelves:

    1. Cut the concrete form to length (figure A).

    2. Cut 3/4" MDF circles to fit inside the concrete form to create the back of the shelf cubby hole. Use your concrete form as a template to mark your circle.

    3. Cut 3/4" MDF pieces that will become shelves.

    4. Attach the shelves at a right angle (figure B) to the backer circles using screws and glue.

    5. Attach the concrete form to the shelf pieces that you've created. Pre-drill and countersink the holes in the concrete form. Use screws and glue.

    6. Fill the screw holes in the concrete form.

    7. Sand the filled holes.

    8. Prime and paint in rainbow colors.

    9. Attach the painted shelf units to the table section with screws from the inside of the table.

    Project Expense:

    Sonotube: Free
    MDF: $22
    Misc: $14

    Total: $36
