    1. Begin with an accurate measurement of the space in which the divider will be situated, and then cut a dowel to size.

    2. Hang the dowel in place or in an area that will allow you to work on the divider.

    3. Decide on an order for the ties. Take into consideration color, patter and shape.

    4. Begin to attach the ties to the dowel (figure A).

    5. Once you have the top row tied on, decide how many ties you wish to be full length based on the size of the space you are dividing.

    6. Pin the ties to one another to get an idea of pattern and look (figure B).

    7. Once the look has been established, cut the ends of the ties that are to be hanging and insert the cut end into the preceding tie.

    8. Staple the ties together, hiding the staples as much as possible.

    9. Repeat until the tie room divider is to your satisfaction.

    Project Expense:

    Ties and Tacks: $45
    Dowel, anchors, stain: $20

    Total: $65
