    Figure D

DIY Decorating and Design host Nancy Golden shares how to create homemade decorative tassels the inexpensive way.

    Materials:

Wooden candle cup (figure A, right)
    Terra cotta votive candle holder
    Glass-and-tile drill bit
    Drill
Acrylic paints (colors of your choice -- burgundy and gold were used for this project)
    Paintbrush
    Braided cord
    Masking tape
    Hot glue gun
    Silk bullion cording

    1. Drill a hole in the bottom of the terra cotta votive candle holder and the wooden candle cup.

    2. Paint the terra cotta votive candle holder with colors of your choice.

    3. Paint the wooden candle cup with a color of your choice.

    4. Wrap the ends of the braided cord with masking tape.

    5. Apply a drop or two of hot glue inside the hole in the wooden candle cup and thread the taped braided cord through the hole. Apply another drop or two of hot glue inside the wooden candle cup to secure the cord (figure B).

    6. Connect the wooden candle cup to the terra cotta votive candle holder with hot glue.

    7. Decorate the holders with another piece of braided cord. Apply some hot glue to the edge and attach the cord (figure C).

    8. Apply hot glue to the silk bullion cording edge, then fold (figure D).

    9. Apply hot glue to the inside of the terra cotta votive candle and stuff the folded silk bullian cording inside.

    10. Attach and loop a long braided cord to the top of the wooden candle cup with hot glue.
    Note:
    • The best part of making this decorative tassel is that is cost less than $10.
