Remove the electrical components from a wall sconce to turn it into a candleholder.

What can you do with old trophies, candy dishes and ceiling fixtures? Trash-to-treasure expert Robb Whittlef creatively groups flea-market finds into what he calls "tablescapes" -- creative and interesting landscapes for the table -- and uses them to hold glowing arrangements of candles.

    • A group of vintage metal trophy cups are great holders for large pillar candles. Vary the heights and shapes of the trophies, if you have several.

    • Old silver candy dishes hold pillar candles and also catch any wax that drips as the candles burn.

    • Cut ketchup bottles off at the ridge and frost them: the opening is perfect for a standard taper.

    • Metal ceiling light fixtures make great centerpieces with tapers inserted in the openings.

    • An old cast-iron flagpole mount is ideal for holding a taper. Place smaller items around the legs for interest.

    • Toy trucks and other vehicles can be set on a table with votive candles in them. This makes a great look for a child's birthday party.

    • Almost everybody has at least one cake-stand around. Put a layer of leaves on the stand to catch drips, then place a variety of pillar candles on the leaves for an attractive display with height.

    • Press odd china teacups into service as votive candleholders.

    • Remove the electrical components from an old wall sconce, and mount it on the wall for a great-looking candle sconce.
