- Set a fixed budget.
- Know what you want.
Jennifer Convey had a fixed budget of $150 to buy furniture for her condo. Having a general idea of what you want can keep you from being distracted by piles of jewelry or other enticing goodies, and setting a fixed budget can be fun, bringing on the bargaining to get the best possible deal. With Harry Segil's help, Jennifer stayed within her budget and found a bunch of bargains to help furnish her condo. A $25 magazine rack, an $8 lamp and a $75 dining-room set were brightened up with colorful enamel. A vintage tablecloth costing only $10 provided enough fabric to cover four chair cushions, with fabric left over for matching napkins.
