The tabletop and legs are attached by dowels, which allow the pieces to be disassembled at will. Materials: Drill with 3/8" bit Dowel center Tape measure or ruler 3/8" tapered wooden dowel - Begin by folding legs together in a stack. Use vise to secure in an upright position.
- Measure and draw a line across the top edges of legs (figure A) to align drilled holes.
- Drill shallow 3/8" holes through top edges of legs (figure B).
- Insert dowel center into hole on each leg (figure C).
- Transfer dowel center position to the table by first aligning legs with X on underside of tabletop.
- Measure from edge of corner to table leg for proper positioning (measurement should be the same for all legs).
- Align the dowel center on the pencil mark (figure D) and press down to create indentation (figure E).
- Repeat process for all legs.
- Remove legs and drill shallow 3/8" holes into the four indentations (figure F). Note: Avoid drilling too deeply -- about 1/2" deep is the maximum.
- Dry-fit tapered dowels into the holes.
- Position the legs over the dowels to test the fit (figure G). Sand the dowels, if necessary, for a better fit.
- Use woodworker's glue to adhere the dowels to the underside of the tabletop and allow to dry thoroughly before proceeding.
