Plain pearls, drenched in gold, dress up a bookcase as this young girl's bedroom continues to take on a new springtime look.
Materials (bookshelf):sponge brush pencil painter's tape level craft glue craft pearls, about 6 yds. fine paintbrush Pale Gold metallic latex paint Benjamin Moore paint (494, Lewisville Green) Benjamin Moore eggshell finish paint (500, Maidenhair Fern) 1. Lewisville Green paint is used to paint the bookshelf. Tip: When painting wood, always paint in the direction of the wood grain (figure A). 2. When the paint is dry, Shannon draws a border on both sides of the bookcase and marks it off with painter's tape (figure B).
3. Plastic craft pearls are cut to fit the border and glued in place. Cord or lace could also be used in place of the pearls (figure C).4. While the glue dries, the outside border around the pearls is taped off. 5. Maidenhair Fern paint is used on the inside panel and the pearls. The darker green border gives strength to the piece, making it pop against the walls, and the lighter green adds dimension and visual interest (figure D).
6. When the paint is dry, Metallic Pale Gold paint is brushed on each of the pearls; the gold color will tie back in to the gold bed frame (figure E).
