Add personality to a plain shelf by dressing up the edge with wood cutouts, seashells, fishing lures or anything else that strikes your fancy. Add a whimsical touch to a bookshelf in a child's room by attaching wood cutouts, such as stars, along the edge of the shelf with hot glue. Or decorate the edge with seashells or tiny stones collected on a family vacation, and add fishing lures and bits of moss from a florist's shop.
