    Figure D

Beverly DeJulio, host of HGTV's Homewise, frees up a window-seat area by adding floating glass shelves, suspended from wall brackets, to the sides of the window seat.

    Materials:

    Floating-glass shelf kit
    Tape measure
    Pencil
    Level
    Awl
    Hammer
    Nail
    Drill
    Liquid soap
    Wall anchors, if necessary

    1. Mark the placement of the shelf, and draw a level line on the wall (figure A).

    2. Position the shelf anchor bracket on the line, and mark the screw holes with an awl. Hammer a nail into the marked spots. If the nail doesn't go into a stud, drill a pilot hole and install wall anchors for support.

    3. Screw the shelf bracket into place on the wall (figure B).

    4. Insert the rubber gasket that comes with the shelf kit in the groove of the bracket (figure C). Put a little liquid soap on the gasket to help it slide into place.

    5. Install the glass shelf by pushing it into the groove in the bracket and centering it (figure D).
