Golden wants to make the room useful for more than just the purpose of dressing and suggests constructing a daybed. Daybeds are nice choices for a small room because they require little space. Safety tip: It's a good idea to use a friend for this portion of the project.
- Center a sturdy, prebuilt bed frame on the designated wall.
- Lay a twin mattress on top of the frame.
- Accessorize with a colorful and complementary bed skirt, comforter and pillows.
- To create the end tables, use unfinished base cabinets (available at home-improvement stores) and add crown molding (figure A).
- Add a plywood plank to the top of the cabinet to give a finished look (figure B).
- Add base molding across the bottom (figure C).
The finished cabinets, one of which is shown in figure D, are painted the same base color as the walls and dry brushed in black. These elements, which serve as the "arms" of the daybed, define its boundaries and provide additional storage space for the room.
