Safely illuminate bedrooms at night with easy-to-make night-light shades. Cindy Piccoli, host of HGTV's Decorating With Style, shows how.

    Materials:

Night-lights and lampshade frames (in round, rectangular or corner shapes)
    Fabric glue
    Silk fabric
    Beads
    Scissors
    Paper
    Black marker
    Needle and thread

    1. Place the lampshade frame on a piece of paper, and trace around the frame to make a template for the fabric. Rotate the frame first to the left and then to the right to include the side sections. Cut out the paper template.

    2. Place the paper template on silk fabric, and add 1/2" all the way around to fold to the back of the frame. Cut out the fabric (figure A).

    3. Place the fabric right side down on the work surface, and place the lampshade frame on top. Apply a bead of fabric glue around the edges of the fabric, fold the fabric around the frame, and press it to the inside (figure B).

    4. Cut small slits in the fabric where the frame pieces join so the fabric will fit tightly around the frame (figure C). The glue may be visible at first through the fabric but will disappear when it dries.

    5. Stitch beads onto the right side of the fabric with a needle and thread (figure D).

    6. Attach the night-light socket to the frame.

    7. Select embroidered or beaded fabric for an elegant-looking night-light (figure E).
