  • Parisian Apartment: Lamps
  • Asian-inspired painted lamps add to the Parisian apartment feel in a made-over master bedroom.
    From "Fresh Coat"
    episode DFCT-306

    Figure A
The Fresh Coat painters give Danielle and Baird Connor's hand-me-down lamps (figure A) some exquisite Asian inspiration, making them look as if they've been created from Chinese urns. First, they spray a special primer (made for slick surfaces) on the glass lamps, then they use a spray gun to recolor them bright turquoise.

Next, they decoupage the lamps with a cherry-blossom motif and finish with metallic gold details and a gentle black glaze for aging. Cool tool: The Spra-tool, a spray gun with a removable cartridge that allows you to fill it with the paint color of your choice. It also eliminates brush marks for a smooth-as-glass finish.

    3. Mix 669 Oceanic Teal with water and a touch of X-I-M latex extender and add to Spra-tool spray cartridge (figure D). Spray on one to two layers of the paint, allowing it to dry between coats. (Test the Spra-tool on cardboard or other test surface first to make sure the solution is working.)
    4. Decoupage cherry-blossom cutouts onto the lamp and spray varnish as topcoat (figure E).
    5. Finally, add metallic accents with Chromotone Latex Acrylic Pale Gold (figure F).
