    Using light molding paste and a non-shrinking artist’s medium, the Fresh Coat painters approach the walls of the Nadine Burke's roomy garage, destined to become a party place. First they cover the nail holes and other imperfections, mixing a deep caramel color into the paste.

    They trowel the color onto the wall and finish the look by taping and painting a hefty metallic frame around the area to create a silver screen complete with Art Deco details (figure A).

    Materials:

    plastic drop clothes
    painters tape
    duct tape
    chalk line
    Golden Acrylic molding paste
    2162-40 Peanut Shell
    power drill
    mixing paddle
    3 hawks (metal palettes that texture experts use)
    2 French trowels
    paint trays
    paint can visor

    1. Tape the plastic drop cloths (figure B) to the foundation (duct tape works best on cement).
    2. Tape off movie screen section for the future painting of frame on wall (figure C).

    3. Mix Golden Acrylic Molding Paste with 2162-40 Peanut Shell.
    4. Scoop (figure D) one batch of Peanut Shell paste onto hawk (a metal palette that texture experts use).
    5. Using trowel cut, trowel onto wall and spread (figure E).
    6. Let dry overnight.

    tape measure
    level
    pencils
    small trays
    small rollers
    small brushes
    Onyx (Benjamin Moore 2133-10)
    gold paint
    Simple Swedish stencil
    stencil brushes

    1. Remove tape from plastering and re-tape for frame (figure F).
    2. Roll on 2133-10 Onyx in high gloss (figure G).
    3. Apply Art Deco stencil with stenciling brushes (figure H).
