By far the biggest piece in this cozy Edwardian living room, the uninteresting albatross of an armoire demands attention from the Fresh Coat team. It will become a colorful, textured focal point when painted a deep teal with a wash of sea haze to tie in the throw pillows on the sofa. Last, the painters add a fish scale pattern on the panels to create nature-inspired texture and drama.
Materials:sandpaper, brush, tack cloth primer 707 Calico Blue (Benjamin Moore brand) 2-inch square brushes pencil ruler masking fluid stippling brushes HC-139 Salisbury Green glaze (Benjamin Moore brand) small rollers small trays pointed artist brushes varnish
1. Sand, brush and tack. 2. Brush on tinted primer 707 Calico Bue in criss-cross fashion to create texture and depth. Let dry completely. 3. Using a ruler and pencil draw out a grid to help as a rough outline. 4. Using masking fluid and round artist brushes to paint on fish scale pattern. Let dry completely. 5. Roll HC-139 Salisbury Green glaze and then stipple all over armoire including door panels for desired texture. Let dry completely. 6. Peel off masking fluid. Use primer for any touch ups. 7. Brush on varnish tinted with Golden Iridescent Pearl around trim for a finished look. 8. Varnish entire armoire and let dry completely.
