  • Girl's Spring Bedroom: Lower Walls
  • The lower half of Sophia's bedroom walls receives a coat of lavender paint.
    From "Fresh Coat"
    episode DFCT-210

Sophia Scarpone comes from a tight-knit family, but sometimes a young girl needs a little alone time. Sophia loves spending time in her room, but she'd love to have a fresh new look with a different color scheme (figure A) (figure B) (figure C).

Decorative painter and host Shannon Kaye's design plan includes stamping on fun color, spraying on a little glamour and adding some dazzling details, all done with just $30 in paint. The lower bedroom walls will be painted lavender; the upper portion of the soft cream walls will be stamped with patterns of nature. The bookshelf, bed, chair and art frames will also receive unique paint treatments (figure D).

    Materials (wall):

    pencil
    level
    painter's tape
    painter's corners (optional)
Benjamin Moore eggshell finish paint (2072-40, Wild Orchid)

    Materials (chair stamping):

    stamps
Benjamin Moore eggshell finish (500, Maidenhair Fern)
Benjamin Moore eggshell finish paint (2072-40, Wild Orchid)
    mini-roller or paintbrush

    1. Floor moldings are taped off and drop cloths are placed over the floors.

    2. Using the windowsill as a guide, Shannon and Sophia use a level and pencil to draw a line around the room (figure E).

    3. The line is taped off at the top and paint corners are placed at the edges of the moldings. The bottom tape lines are sealed with a line of varnish to prevent accidental paint bleed (figure F).

    4. Wild Orchid paint is rolled on the lower portion of the walls.

    5. While the walls dry, Shannon and Sophia roll a light coat of paint on rubber floral stamps and apply the patterns to the back of Sophia's desk chair (figure G).
