This room will be filled will music equipment, so there isn't much room for furniture (figure A). To solve the seating arrangements of visiting guests, Golden installed a drink ledge complete with barstools. The ledge is easily constructed using a 1 x 8, with a 1 x 2 for a backsplash and will rest on three evenly spaced corbels (figure B), materials easily available at any home store. The result is a functional, narrow ledge that subtly enhances the room.

    Steps:

    1. Measure the width of the wall, then measure the desired height to position the ledge (figure C). Typically a bar ledge will be about 42" high.

    2. Measure the distance between the keyholes on the back of the corbels. Take your time with these measurements, because they need to be precise.

    3. Make sure the marks are level (figure D), then install the wall anchors and screws (figure E). The anchors will keep you from having to locate all the wall studs. With the screws in position, install the corbels (figure F).

    4. Screw the 1 x 2 to the back of the ledge, position the ledge, predrill holes and secure the ledge to the wall.
