Since the media room is highly functional, it doesn't need many accessories. Here are some useful additions (and a couple of decorative ones) that Golden added to complete the room.

    • Wall pockets (whose shape repeats the harlequin theme) attached to one wall and topped with a plywood shelf make a great place to keep refreshments for guests to enjoy while watching a movie.

    • Subtle lighting is provided by wall sconces (figure A), just like in a real movie theater. (If you can't find sconces in the color you need, buy some that are made of a porous material and paint them to coordinate with the room.)

    • For a decorative touch, Golden adds a pair of attractive glass vases to the top of the storage shelves (figure B).

    • On the screen wall, Golden creates the impression of a real theater curtain by adding draperies in a washable silk-look fabric. The panels are stapled to 1x2 wood pieces and mounted on the wall, then bunched on either side with tiebacks (figure C).

    • Above the screen, she mounts a curtain rod with a valance that will serve to hide the screen when it's rolled up (figure D).

Expert tip: For a more intimate feeling in a room, select finishes such as eggshell or satin: they'll increase both the luster and the color.
