To complement the furnishings and whimsical mural designs in this nursery, a variety of fabrics in light and bright colors are selected for the bedding, windows and accent pillows.

    • Yards of tulle, held in place at the corners with decorative metal butterflies (figure A), are used to create a light, airy valance.

    • Once the tulle is secured in place, silk gerbera daisies of various colors are randomly scattered over the length of the yardage as accents. To attach the daisies, the flowers are simply pulled off the stems, fitted with pins on the back then secured to the tulle (figure B) for the beautiful, breezy look shown in figure C.

    • To provide seating for the room, a loveseat no longer used in the household is placed under the large window and refreshed with a crisp, white slipcover (figure D). To integrate the piece with the other furnishings, a variety of accent pillows in coordinating fabrics are arranged on the loveseat (figure E); patterns include gingham, small prints and a soft plaid. The two bolster pillows are tied with bright ribbon at the ends for an extra splash of color.

    • A few more accent pillows -- all mix and match -- are placed in the crib along with a soft yellow bunny (figure F) to complement the beautiful bedding that's already in place. The colors and patterns of these pillows nicely complement those on the loveseat.

    • And just what items of bedding make up the colorful look of this crib? To start off, a plaid bumper pad that includes almost every color found in the fabrics used throughout the room. Next, a soft quilt with a whimsical pattern of lively insects (figure G), which will keep baby warm and comfortable. And last but not least, a beautiful bedskirt of light green gingham which is accented with a breezy white linen overlay and pompom trim (figure H).

    • Once the window treatments, loveseat and crib are complete, the only area still in need of attention is the cozy built-in window seat beneath the room's smaller window. To highlight this special spot, a queen-size pillow in a Euro-size envelope sham is centered on the back of the seat. To highlight its scalloped-edge detail, the sham's front flap is accented with a single silk gerbera daisy.

    • Finally, two more pillows in coordinating fabric are placed in the window seat, one on each side of the envelope pillow, completing the fabric treatments for the nursery. Now all that's left to do is add the perfect combination of colorful accessories!
