    To replace the carpet she removed, Golden plans to lay modular carpet tiles (figure A). The carpet tiles come in 2 different sizes and are made of nylon sisal, a very durable fiber. These tiles also have a carpet pad attached so no additional carpet skills are necessary.

    1. Sweep the floor well (figure B) to remove any dust and debris.

    2. Determine the center of the floor by snapping two chalk lines (width and length). The chalk lines will also divide the room into smaller segments for easy workspaces.

    3. In this instance, Golden uses double-sided tape on the floor but pressure adhesive can be used as well. The tape may be applied to the floor in any pattern.

    4. Install the carpet tiles outward from the center chalk line (figure C). The tape will help keep the tiles secure while laying other pieces.

    5. Cut the excess tiles from the back (figure D) using a utility knife and a straight edge.
