    Figure A
The metallic theme continues with the dining room table and chairs.

    • The table and chairs, all flea-market finds, are painted in a silvery shade with a metallic finish. Since the room is small, you don't want to add bulk to the room: this finish allows the furniture almost to float in the room (figure A).

    • The host and hostess chairs are old upholstered chairs that get a surprising new look (figure B). Paint is applied to the entire surface of the chairs (figure C). Four coats of a silver gray latex paint are applied to the entire surface of the chairs. Latex paint does not require a sealer and will not become brittle.

    • An area rug with a circular color design pattern is added (figure D): the tones of purple, steel and blue tie the room colors together, while the wooden floor adds warmth.

    • The window detail is kept simple (figure E). An eyelash fabric with a little bit of glimmer is used, and for artistic detail, tassels made of crystals hold the sheer panels in place.

    • The table centerpieces are bright yellow vases filled with a dried arrangement of white flowers (figure F).

    • A lamp with a crystal shade sits on a small back table (figure G). The light casts a soft glow on the metallic wall.

    • Three large canvases are hung on one wall. A local artist was commissioned to create a place setting of silverware that will boldly reflect the purpose of the room.

Now that the room is a fun, functional space with an urban, edgy look (figure H), it's time to invite your friends over for a meal. Oh, don't forget to order the pizza!
