Instead of purchasing an expensive chandelier, with lots of decorative baubles, why not take a simple and affordable chandelier and add embellishments that fit your personality? Nancy Golden found a great chandelier at a home store for $75 (figure A). It has grooves and tunnels in the design that will allow it to be easily decorated.

    1. Collect decorative items that reflect your design style. Here we have assembled flea market beads and jewelry, clusters of glass grapes, drop crystals, old assorted silverware pieces and a random collection of wine glasses (figure B).

    2. Drill holes in the handles of the silverware (figure C).

    3. Use 18- and 24-gauge wire to attach the materials to the chandelier. Attach the wine glasses with 18-gauge wire and the delicate beads and crystals with the 24-gauge wire

Tip: The lower the number for the wire gauge, the thicker and stronger it will be.

    4. You can attach a few items to your chandelier or go for the bold, arty look used on this chandelier. This is a very forgiving, organic project: you can always add more or take away objects as you live with your new lighting look.
