Interior designer Cathy Whitlock offers Cindy Piccoli, host of HGTV's Decorating With Style, ideas for adding a touch of Asian decor to your home with fabric, wallcoverings, ginger jars and antiques. Add an oriental toile fabric or wallcovering or a soft Asian floral to walls, upholstery and accessories. Toile is usually associated with French design but was also produced in Asia in the 18th century to depict scenes of everyday life. Both brightly hued toiles and soft-colored oriental florals work well in traditional or contemporary settings. Traditional blue-and-white porcelain is a great accent in any room and is especially striking against a yellow wall or combined with red. Group ginger jars, temple jars and vessels for a bold statement, or have one turned into a lamp base. Display a miniature Zen garden, complete with sand, rocks and a little wooden rake, for soothing contemplation. Or frame an antique fan or an old textile such as a pillowcase.
