Bright colors, mission-style furnishings, modern art and whimsical decorative elements blend beautifully with the contemporary design of Julie Landau's home. With help from her sister, artist Susan Landau, she's created a delightfully eclectic style by combining traditional furnishings and contemporary sensibilities. The very contemporary architecture of Julie Landau's home lends itself naturally to bright-orange and violet walls and a jagged-edge slate-fronted fireplace. The open floor plan is well suited for parties, and the large space allows Julie to use all her favorite colors in one room (figure A). Mission-style furniture with leather upholstery contrasts nicely with the bright colors and clean architectural lines and gives the space a warm, cozy feel. A whimsical, offbeat chandelier over the dining table, favorite pieces of modern art and a mosaic-tile "rug" on the kitchen floor reflect Julie's personal style and connect the disparate elements of this eclectic contemporary home.
