One of the hottest trends in decorating today is the southwestern cowboy theme. A rustic cabin on the historic St. Croix River in Minnesota is transformed into a southwestern hideaway. The florals and wicker of a country-style living room are replaced with denim, leather and heavy furniture. The creative use of cowboy paraphernalia makes this a fun look to accessorize. A Navajo rug in warm reds sets the tone. The floral seating is replaced with an overstuffed green-denim sofa and two heavy chairs. A wonderful warm-leather chair and a Navajo-print wingback chair, both with button nailhead trim, keep the country theme going. The creative use of accessories makes this look come alive: A steer-horn candleholder and a pot of dried safflowers top a pretty cherry end table. A leather-fringed sheriff's pillow looks great on the leather chair. Branding irons and a pair of spurs liven up an iron-and-glass sofa table. Vintage art in twig frames gives a rustic touch to the walls. Cowboy boots, a big coil of rope and an old western poster make the mantel fun. Lending an easy, creative finish to the mantel is a drape of pheasant feathers and twigs fastened together with floral wire.
