    episode WDC-305

To continue the slick, minimalist look of this room, Golden has chosen a low-profile platform bed. Ordered from a catalog, the bed comes with all the pieces for easy assembly. Once it's put together, it will be a bed fit for a teen! (A computer decorating program can show you how a certain style of bed will look in a room.)

    Project time: 3 hours.

    Materials (bed project):
Bed kit (be sure to check all parts and pieces before beginning assembly)

Expert tip: Assemble the bed on top of a drop cloth. It will protect your floor or rug from tools and sharp edges, and it will also catch drips when you paint.

    1. Put the bed together following all of the manufacturer's instructions.

    2. Install the slats. They will rest on the center and the edge of the frame (figure A).

Tip: For another trendy look, remove the bed frame completely and place the box springs and mattress on the floor.

    3. After everything is assembled, go back and check all the parts to make sure they're tightly screwed together.

Tip: Float the bed in a kid's room -- it makes it easier for him to make it up.

Time spent so far: 6 hours.
