In this second half of a two-part Weekend Decorating, Nancy Golden shows how she transformed this bathroom once inhabited by teenage boys into a beautiful spalike retreat for guests.

On a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the greatest degree of difficulty, this project rates an advanced 5. It took 21 hours over the course of three and a half days to complete this phase of the project, and the total cost of materials and accessories was $1,500.

Because this is the conclusion of a two-part project, Golden shows a front elevation sketch (figure A) instead of a typical floor plan.

    Preparation:

    1. Frame family photos in decorative frames as accessories for the wall.
    2. Check to make sure the kits have all the parts.
    3. Gather accessories.

    Starting the Water Works

The new vanity table, because it is not a true vanity (figure B), is not prepped for sink installation, especially for the vessel sinks and the faucet handles (figure C). Because the vessel sinks are sitting on a table, the water source needs to come from a good place. Golden chooses to install a gooseneck faucet because of its shape (figure D).

The first step in any type of project dealing with plumbing is to shut off the water.

Note: If you are uncertain about tackling this portion of the project or do not know the necessary building and safety codes for your region, it's perfectly fine to hire a plumber to install the sinks.
