Romance abounds in a lavish bed and bath suite that includes rich fabrics, gold-burnished furniture, decorative painted surfaces and large statues and columns reaching up to a vaulted ceiling. Joan Kohn, host of HGTV's Bed & Bath Design, visits with designer Greg LeVanis and artist Sam Robinson, who shared in the design of this fabulous bedroom suite. Two very different moods are evident in the suite -- tones of dark red and green make the bedroom cocoonlike, perfect for sleeping; the master bath, in monochromatic tones of gold and ivory, is light and airy. The bathroom combines a sitting room, a lounge and an exercise room. There are two elegant seating areas -- one with a recliner facing the view and the other around an imported French fireplace. Built-in cabinets house an entertainment center, a coffeemaker and a cooktop. The ceiling, walls and cabinets feature the fabulous decorative-painting effects of artist Sam Robinson. The cabinets' crackle and gilt finishes give them the look of old patinaed furnishings, and the lounging area's high ceiling has a dreamy cloud-painted finish. Diana the huntress and Neptune with pots of gold may be seen among the clouds. The shower stall -- all marble, with full-body sprays -- and the toilet are hidden behind separate mirrored walls. Few people can afford such luxury, yet many of these design ideas can add romance to everyday decorating. Faux-finish your own furniture and cabinets for an elegant aged look. Use deep, rich colors in your bedroom for warmth and lots of luxurious fabrics and gilt-edged furnishings everywhere in your home for a romantic look.
