The highly polished, sleek home Jill Van Tosh designed for her Atlanta clients is a handsome example of contemporary minimalist design. With white walls, touches of black and warm wood floors, its scaled-down less-is-more look serves as a perfect backdrop for an impressive collection of artwork.

The focal point of the living room, a fireplace made of colorful African slate framed with curved metal, sets the tone for the rest of the room. The recessed glass shelves flanking the fireplace provide an elegant display area for the homeowners' art-glass collection, and the interior curves of the unit reflect the curves of the fireplace (figure A). Classic black-leather-and-chrome furnishings of the '30s work well in the simple, artistic living room and add the balance that strong touches of black provide (figure B).

The guest room is even more minimal in design than the living room, with fewer pieces of art, each more highly accented. An impressive column adds an architectural element, and a curvy chair is art that's functional as well as eye-catching (figure C).
